Sencity Corporation takes home a Gold 2020 Edison Award
As we were all sitting at home working remotely for the last few weeks, we received notice that we were a finalist for one of the Edison Awards. The Edison Award, is a bit like an Oscar for commercial products. The typical winners range from multinational conglomerates like PepsiCo to small scrappy startups like us, Sencity Corporation.
We soon learned that we won the Gold Award, the first prize, under the category of Living, Working & Learning Environments. We were stoked, elated in fact, since the premise of the company was founded on making good civic action fun and engaging as a method to make cities more livable and healthier.
Our humble interactive IoT urban furniture product, TetraBIN, was our first product that launched the company. Children and families loved interacting with it by disposing trash inside. The award for us was also a validation of creating a product that encouraged people to do good and to be more aware.
We work in the space called Smart Public Spaces and New Retail. Our sales pipelines are relatively long and our manufacturing processes even longer. We have learnt a lot since our founding. Although we are often seen as a hardware company, in many ways we are actually more of a software company. Oh we definitely make hardware products, but it’s the full stack software from front end apps to the brains of the backend — our SencityOS platform that makes what we do special. SencityOS connects all the experiences, data, users and devices together into a multilayered ecosystem and when our devices are connected, the experience amplifies with a network effect that grows and persists due to the software.
This award shines like a bright light of joy for us during these dark times — just like how we intend to build products to be shining beacons of joy for people in cities and in the streets.
We look forward to that day when we emerge again in public to explore our cities, meet with our friends and watch children laughing as they interact with our many connected devices in the sunlight. We are very grateful for the boost and confirmation of this award and it only further pushes us onto our continuous mission to make our spaces more livable.
Thank you Edison Awards.
